Inspiration

The Cribs - I'm A Realist
Currently I cannot find the video as it appears to have been removed from YouTube for copyright reasons. However, I liked the use split screen in the video, especialy it showing the contrast between a boy and a girl in how they get ready. I also think the video has a fun vibe to it which helps to attarct its target audience. I also like the whole concept of filming a person getting ready to go out, which I am planning to use in my own msuic video but using only extreme close ups to show it.

The Cribs - Martell
I think the use of mannequins is an original idea and is very effective in keeping people’s attention thus will attract the target audience. It makes the video stand out from other performance videos, and could be interpreted in a variety of ways. If I were able to gain such resources I would like to perhaps use a similar concept as this video, however this would be very difficult to get hold of.

Vincent Vincent And The Villians - On My Own

Stateless - Bloodstream
This is one of my favourite songs, and I like the use of slow, lingering cuts, this contrasts with the typical editing of music videos. I also like the blue lighting and the use o the hanging beads to create the mysterious ann calm atmosphere, it even implies an almost hypnotic effect on the audience.

Ok Go -A Million Ways

I like the simplicity of the video, it is literally just the band performing a dance routine in a garden but it is still entertaining and keeps the audiences attention. I think all Ok Go's music videos are very original and effective in their own way, making them stand out from other music videos.

Cake - Short Skirt/Long Jacket
I like this video as it is original and does not take itself too seriously but approaches it light-heartedly and it can be funny at times. It shows a variety of real people in real life settings, meaning the audience can relate to them. I think filming people’s reactions to the song is effective and an interesting idea, especially as they included people who had negative views on the song. I could perhaps use something similar to this for my intro to my video as my song is very short.

Little Comets - Joanna

Panic! at the Disco - Lying is the Most Fun A Girl Can Have Without Taking Her Clothes Off
I like the fact that this video is somewhat conceptual and open to interpretation, there has been much discussion as to what the fish tanks on the characters heads represent, some say the fish represent lies some argue that each fish represents a lover, and this is how the man knows the girl has cheated on him. It is also original and quirky, thus very memorable for the audience as I have never seen this kind of concept before. I also find it visually appealing, as the fish tanks, old fashioned cars and vintage style clothing give it an odd unique style.

NeverShoutNever - What is Love?

In this video, the aspects that attract me the most are the added in writing and pictures that appear throughout the entire video on top of the actual shots. I feel it draws the audience in and makes it more exciting, it also allows the artist to get any message across they wish and make the meaning of the video clearer. I also like the idea of the performer writing on a sign and holding it up, this I plan to use in my own video when the lyrics spell out the name of the girl it is about.

The Naked And Famous - Young Blood

I find this video attractive as there is no particular narrative or plot line, it simply appears to be a montage of unrelated shots of young people doing what people may see as exciting and inspirational actions, being rebellious and foolish, however the video is celebrating such an approach to life. The video is also somewhat empowering to its target audience of teenagers and young adults, giving a message of carelessness and freedom, celebrating youth. It has been described as 'inspiration to live life to the fullest', which I feel is very accurate. I also like the bright lighting throughout the video coming from the sun creating the pale soft pastel colours, and the images of sparklers against the night sky, I feel these both to be very effective and would perhaps like to incorporate them into my own music video.

The Subways - We Don't Need Money
This video is similar to ‘Young Blood’ in that it features a montage of clips showing young people being reckless and rebellious, though this video has more of a fun element to it then the empowering aspect of ‘Young Blood’. It also features the band performing, both individually and together. I like the idea of using this montage of shots celebrating youth and being reckless, it would especially appeal to my target audience, therefore I plan to incorporate such an element into my own video.

White Lies - Unfinished Business
I like White Lies videos as they tend to be very imaginative and conceptual, they often come across as strange and somewhat dark, I feel these aspects help them to stand out from other music videos of the genre. They cause the audience to think and leave them wondering what the video was actually about as it is often very unclear as to what the message behind it actually was.

The Vaccines - If You Wanna

Though I do not necessarily want to create such a music video, I think this is hugely effective as a performance video. I like the quick shots between the band members and the fact they are kept in silhouettes at the beginning of the video, hiding their identities. This is a concept I am considering using in my own video, but instead of simple showing shadows I plan to only use extreme close up of my actress. I also like the quick cuts and changing colours in the background, I feel these are what make such a simple video still visually effective and interesting for the audience.

Slipknot - Before I Forget
This video consists of soley extreme close ups, somehting I would like to encorporate into my own video. I plan to only show the main actress through close ups and extreme close ups, as I feel in this video it is very effective in standing out from other music videos, and keeping the audience engaged though not much is actually shown.
